A LoRA is a small, custom-trained adapter that teaches an open image model a specific subject or style. It can be useful when you need repeatable behaviour from an open workflow, while a fixed hosted model can be quicker when you want to work from a reference without preparing training data.
Start with a fixed model when speed matters
Fixed hosted models avoid preparing a training dataset and can let you try a new look or scene from a reference quickly. They still have generation costs and their identity retention varies by model, reference and prompt. They are a practical starting point when you do not need a custom adapter yet.
- No training run or dataset preparation for the first experiment.
- A quick way to compare quality and realism on your own reference.
- Try changing the scene through prompting.
- Keep identity cues in the reference instead of baking them into a checkpoint.
When a LoRA actually earns its keep
A custom LoRA can be worth the training cost when you need a repeatable subject or style that reference prompting does not provide reliably, or when an open workflow gives you controls that a hosted model does not. Training adds dataset, compute and evaluation work, so compare that cost with the time and generation cost of your current workflow.
When it is, a kit can bundle the training with ready workflows: InfluencerMaxxing 101 includes one Krea 2 LoRA training and two ready workflows ($69.99). Learn more
Decide which constraints matter most: setup time, generation cost, control, repeatability and the kinds of outputs you need. A prompt experiment can be a useful baseline before committing to training, but it does not replace an evaluation of your actual workflow.
If you do go fixed: which one?
GPT Image 2 and Nano Banana 2 make different tradeoffs around prompt detail, reference edits, finish and output size. Compare them on the same reference and scene before choosing a default. The full breakdown is in Nano Banana 2 vs GPT Image 2 for AI Personas.
